From day one creativity was positively encouraged in this free stitch-a-long. It started out as a relatively simple SAL, but it was morphed and transformed, by the creativity and generosity of the group, into something far more random and far more beautiful.
Thanks to the intrepid nature of our members this stitch-a-long evolved and took on a life of its own to become a wide variety of projects with personality. Our little squares became hexagons, fillable alphabets, garden layouts…Beautifully stitched text was added and insects flew in to join the flowers. Files were shared for all to use, The projects became bookmarks, cushions, pouches, chessboards, quilts…. And then there was colour. So many different and glorious interpretations. If you haven’t already seen the SAL gallery, please click here to take a peek at some examples of the varied and wonderful work this collaborative affair has produced.
We have over 5 and a half thousand lovely supportive members, ranging from first time blackwork stitchers, to experts, who generously share their knowledge. It’s not too late to join in with this year, or you can just go and have a mooch about to see if you like what you see. As for next year’s free SAL, I have plans! Lots of plans! Details will be coming soon, you can sign up to the newsletter to be updated or just check back here from time to time.
